A Dam was Half Full when Dung Fell into it. Is it Pure or Not?

Q: Taharaat-6: A dam in our village was half full when water mixed with urine and dung flowed into it. Water from neighbouring farms also flowed into it and although half or more than half of it flowed out, the water did not spill over the banks. The water however appears to be pure and even after filling up. It is the colour that it always was. Is this water pure and can we wash our clothes in it or not?

Answer: If all the channels leading to a dam are impure, the dam water will also be impure. However, if one of the channels is pure and it fills an area of the dam equal to ten by ten. then the water will be regarded as pure, even though impure water also mixed with it. Of course, the water will be impure if the taste, colour or smell of the water has changed with the impurity.

Rasulullaah SAW. had taken the difficulties concerning water into Consideration, and so too have the Fuqahaa. They have also taken Umoom Balwa into consideration and have made the laws flexible and simple. There is therefore no need to be sceptical about the purity of the water. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
