Observing the I'tikaaf without Fasting

Q: It'kaaf-2: I intend observing I'tikaaf during the last ten days of Ramadhaan but am unable to fast. will the I'tikaaf be valid without the fasting?

Answer: Fasting is a precondition for the Sunnah I'tikaaf' Nafl I?tikaaf may however be observed without fasting. This will not be regarded as the sunnah I'tikaaf. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
