Receiving the Hujjaaj

Q: Hajj-3: Is there any basis for people receiving the Hujjaaj at the station, or is this just as baseless custom?

Answer: It is an act of reward to receive the Hujaaj. Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar RADI. reports that Rasulullaah SAW. said, "When you meet the Haaji, greet him, shake his hand and request his du'aas before he enters his home because he has been forgiven.

Hadhrat Hasan RAH. reports that one should see a Haaji off when he leaves and bid him to pray for one. Then, when he returns, one should meet him and shake his hands before he starts to engage in his worldly activities because his hands have been blessed. Rasulullaah SAW. also made du'aa saying, "O Allaah! Forgive the Haaji and the one for whom the Haaji seek forgiveness.

It is however inappropriate and wrong for women to leave their villages to meet the Hujaaj at the station. In fact, their men will be sinful for not stopping them. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
