Q: 6 – Title: Can one animal suffice for the entire family? We do one Qurbani in U.S.A. and one in Pakistan. If the meat of the Pakistani’s Qurbani is fully distributed are we still required to distribute 1/3 of the Qurbani of the US?

Question

1) Animal sacrifice is one for family or each member of family

2) We are do one animal in USA & one in Pakistan. In USA have to ditribute 1/3 or pakistan animal 100% will do?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatuh.

Qurbani  is wajib upon all Muslims (male or female) who are sane,  mature, not a traveler and who possesses the nisab of zakat on the 10^th or 11^th or 12^th of Zul-Hijjah. (Ta’leemul Haq; Pg. 221. 12^th Edition.)

One Qurbani will not suffice for the entire family. Qurbani is wajib upon each individual separately.[1]

It is not necessary  to distribute the meat of the Qurbani animal. You may keep all the meat for yourself and your family.[2]

[2]:(ويأكل) المضحي (من لحم الأضحية، ويطعم الأغنياء والفقراء، ويدخر) لقوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: (كنت نهيتكم عن أكل لحوم الأضاحي، فكلوا وادخروا) ولا يعطى أجر الجزار منها، للنهي عنه كما في الهداية.
