Reciting Faatiha Before Carrying the Deceased

Q: Janaa'iz-11: It is the custom in our area for people to gather in the House of the deceased before the bier is lifted. The Imaam then say's Al Faatiha" to get the people to recite Surah Faatiha, after which he makes du'aa in a loud voice. Does this practice conform with the Sunnah?

Answer: People are allowed to make du'aa individually, but to do so in congregation conflicts with the practice of Rasulullaah SAW. the Sahabah RADI. and our pious predecessors. The custom stated in the question is therefore Makrooh. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
