Throwing Flowers on the Deceased

Q: Janaa'iz-61: People cast a shawl of flowers upon the deceased with the belief that it earns rewards and saves the person from punishment. This is usually prepared before hand, but if it is delayed, the funeral is also delayed' Is there any basis for this practice?

Answer: There is no basis for this practice in the lives of Rasulullaah SAW. The sabaha RADI. the Taabi'een and all those after them. Had this been beneficial for the deceased, these people would have done it. The practice is therefore an act of Bid'ah and Makrooh Tahreemi.

Hadhrat Shah Is'haaq Muhaddith Dehlawli RAH. (passed away 7262 A.H.) says, "It is an act oi Bid'ah and Makrooh Tahreermi to cast a shawl of flowers upon the deceased.

Maa Laa Budda Minhu (pg.131) states that this act is a waste of money and An imitation of the ways of the Hindus. It is therefore Haraam. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
