Performing Four Rakaahs Taraaweeh salaah with One Salaam

Q: Salaah-471: Our Haafidh Sahib performed four Rakaahs Taraaweeh salaah with one salaam rather than two Rakaahs. when he stood up for the third Rakaahs, he was corrected, but continued to stand up and complete four Rakaahs without even performing the sajdah sohw. How many if these Rakaahs will be counted as Taraaweeh? If the salaah needs to be repeated, does the Qiraa'ah also have to be repeated?

Answer: When the Imaam ignored the correction and continued to stand up for the third Rakaah and complete four Rakaahs, he ought to have performed sajdah sahw for the salaah to be valid. If he did not, only two Rakaahs would have been Taraaweeh, but it was Waajib (compulsory) to repeat it. It would have to be repeated within the time for the salaah, failing which, there is no Qadhaa. All the Qur'aan recited during the four Rakaahs will also have to be repeated. However, if the Imaam sat in Qa'dah after two Rakaahs, all four Rakaahs would have been counted as Taraaweeh and there would have been no need to repeat the Qiraa'ah either. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
