Collectively Making Du'aa after the Twenty Rakaah

Q: Salaah-421: We have never been making du'aa collectively after the twenty Rakaahs of Taraaweeh salaah. The Musallis have always made du'aa individually. but the Imaam has requested that it be collective from this year. While some see no reason to start something new, others are in favour of the idea. What is closer to the Sunnah and better?

Answer: While it is Mustahab to pause between every four Rakaahs of the Taraaweeh salaah, the emphasis is not as great after the final Rakaah. The Fuqahaa have made it clear that even if it is difficult for the Musallis, the first four pauses may not be omitted but only cut shorter. However, the final one may be omitted altogether.3 It is therefore not necessary to start a controversy over making du'aa during this period. Since the Fuqahaa have allowed people to do as they please during this period (to make du'aa silently or audibly), it seems senseless to insist that du'aa be made audibly. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
