Performing the Taraaweeh salaah behind an Imaam who did not Perform the Fardh of Isha

Q: Salaah-448: The Fardh of Isha was performed and the second Haafidh arrived only when the Taraaweeh salaah had commenced. He then led two Rakaahs without first performing the Isha salaah. He was then removed when some Muqtadis objected and the balance of the salaah was led by the other Haafidh. The question is whether the two Rakaahs salaah led by the second Haafidh is valid or need it be repeated?

Answer: In the stated case, the two Rakaahs he led need to be repeated. If they were not repeated then, they could have been repeated any time before dawn of the following morning. Since that time has also elapsed, there is no Qadhaa possible. istighfaar is however necessary. The amount of Qur'aan recited during those two Rakaahs should be repeated in the Taraaweeh salaah of another day. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
