Question 1747) - Whose duty is it to maintain the parents?

A: If someone owns wealth he will first spend on himself, whether he is young or old, man or woman. This rule is general and covers parents and others but not wives. The husband is responsible to maintain the wife even if she is rich. If one or both the parents are poor then the children are obligated to maintain them.*Nobody shares the responsibility of the child to support his parents. Juts as it is wajib to maintain the parents, it is also wajib to maintain grandfathers and grandmothers if they are poor.
