Making Dhikr Loudly when Carrying the Funeral Bier

Q: Imaan-84: When the funeral bier is being carried, some men walking in front of the others recites the Kalimah and other du'aas loudly (such as ?Igfirli Yaa Ghafoor') until the people reach the graveyard. Is this permissible? Furthermore, is it permissible in the Shari'ah to recite the Faatiha after the burial, after walking a few steps away and then again at the house of the deceased?

Answer: While it is permissible to engage in Dhikr silently when acompanying the funeral bier, it is not permissible to do so loudly. The practice described conflicts with the Sunnah and is Makrooh Tahreemi. This evident from books such as Bahrur Raa'iq (Vol.S Pg.72) and (Vol.2 pg.194), Fataawaa Siraajiyya (Pg.23) , Maraaqil Falaah (Pg.118), Tahtaawi on Maraaqil Falaah (Pg.353) and Fataawaa Aalamgeeri (Vol 1 Pg. 104).

The Janaazah salaah is in itself the best du'aa for the deceased and no other congregational du'aa has been established from the Sunnah.

It is Mustahab to stand by the graveside for a while after the burial to make du'aa. Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar RADI. stated that the opening verses of Surah Baqara should be recited by the head side of the grave and the closing verses at the feet side.' (This should be recited silently and sometimes even left out so that people do not regard it to be compulsory). However, the custom of making du'aa after taking a few steps away from the grave and the custom of gathering by the house of the deceased for the Faatiha are acts that conflict with the Sunnah.
