A Girl Comes of Age while Memorising the Qur'aan

Q: Taharaat-48: A girl is busy memorising the Qur'aan and has now come of age. When her menses start, she is forced to miss her lessons for eight days each month because she is not allowed to recite the Qur'aan during those days. The difficulty is that this would prolong her completion and missing days in between causes her to forget what she had learnt. Is there any way in which she can at least recite Qur'aan during these days because forgetting forces her to learn all over again.

Answer: She cannot recite the Qur'aan during the days of her menses. There are only two alternatives she can use to prevent her from forgetting. These are:

1. She can use a cloth, a pen or anything else to open the Qur'aan and to page through it as she recites it in her mind without moving her tongue.

2. She may sit with a person reciting the Qur'aan and listen. This will also aid in memorising. Using one of these two methods is permissible and will suffice for keeping her memory fresh, inshaa Allaah. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
