Watn Iqaamah is Nullified by Travel

Q: Salaah-264: While I accept that when I travel the safar distance (48 miles), my Watn lqaamah (Soungar) ceases to be the Watn lqaamah. Therefore, when I return to Soungar and do not intend staying fifteen or more days, it will not be regarded as my Watn lqaamah because its status as Watn lqaamah had been nullified by the travelling. I will therefore perform Qasr salaah here in Soungar. However some Ulema say that performing Qasr in this manner is incorrect. I am now in doubt. Is it Fardh (obligatory) or Waajib (compulsory) to perform Qasr salaah after travelling a distance of three Manzils (48 miles)?

Answer: Your practice is correct. Nurul ldhaa (Pg.109) states that the Watn Iqaamah loses its status when a person travels to another Watn lqaamah, when he travels the distance of Safar and when he travels to his Watn Asli. The Shari'ah ordains the Qasr salaah and performing it is Waajib (compulsory).
