Which Surahs are Masnoon during the Jumu'ah salaah and the Fair of the day of Jumua'h?

Q: Salaah-272: Is it Sunnah to recite any specific Surahs during the Jumu?ah salaah and the Fajr salaah of the day of Jumu'ah? Is it Sunnah to recite Surah Sajdah during the Fajr salaah of the day of Jumu'ah? Please clarify with references.

Answer: It was the practice of Rasulullaah SAW. to mostly recite Surah kaafirun in the first Rakaah of the Sunnah of Fajr and Surah Ikhlaas in the second Rakaah. In the Witr salaah, he often recited Surah A'laa in the first Rakaah, Surah Kaafiroon in the second Rakaah and Surah Ikhlaas in the third. Some Ahadeeth also state that he sometimes also recited Surah Ikhlaas in the first Rakaah and then the Mu'awwadhatayn (Surah Falaq and Surah Naas) in the other two Rakaahs.

Rasulullaah SAW. also recited Surah A'laa in the first Rakaah of the Jumu'ah salaah and then Surah Ghaashiya in the second Rakaah. It is also established that he recited Surah Jumu'ah in the first Rakaah of the Jumu'ah salaah and then Surah Munaafiqoon in the second Rakaah. In the Fajr salaah on Fridays Rasulullaah SAW. recited Surah Sajdah in the first Rakaah and Surah Dahar in the second.

It is therefore Sunnah and Mustahab to sometimes recite these Surahs in these salaahs. It must however not be recited every time because people may then think that it is Waajib (compulsory) or Sunnah Mu'akkadah. Durrul Mukhtaar states, It is Makrooh to fix specific Surahs to recite in specific salaahs, such as Surah SaJdah in the first Rakaah of the Fajr salaah on Fridays and Surah Dahar in the second Rakaah. It is however Mustahab to recite these Surahs sometimes." Shaami (Vol. 1 Pg. 88) states that it is Mustabab to sometimes recite the surahs that Rasulullaah SAW. recited for rewards and blessings.
