Silent Qiraa'ah

Q: Salaah-580: How must the silent Qiraa'ah be recited? Is merely pronouncing the letters correctly sufficient or is some degree of audibility necessary?

Answer: The most cautious opinion states that one must be able to hear oneself. This is the opinion of Hindwani and has been preferred by many research scholars. Imaam Shaami RAH. has stated that it is the best opinion. The other opinion is that of Imaam Karkhi RAH. stating that pronouncing the letters correctly suffices. Although salaah will be valid by practicing on this opinion, the first is preferred because it exercises greater caution.

Reciting Qiraa'ah in a manner that only the letters are pronounces correctly, is the minimum requirement for Qiraa'ah to be valid and anything less will be tantamount to imagining the Qiraa'ah. Reciting in this manner without the tongue and lips moving will render the salaah invalid. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
