Insisting on Making Du'aa after the Eid Khutbah

Q: Salaah-624: I have always been making du'aa both after the Eid salaah and the Eid Khutbah. Since this has always been done regularly, many ignorant people made a fuss when it stopped doing so this year. What is the ruling with regard to making the du'aa regularly?

Answer: No Hadith clearly specifies making du'aa either after the Eid salaah or after the Eid Khutbah. There is however substantiation for making du'aa in the Eid Khutbah and, Mashaa Allaah, people do practice this. When the du'aa in the Eid Khutbah is made with regularity, what is then the need to insist on another du'aa? It therefore conflicts with the Sunnah practice to persistently make du'aa after the Eid Khutbah. Making du'aa after the Eid salaah is however allowed because the Ahadeeth encouraging du'aa after salaah are general.
