Where Should the Imaam Face when making Du'aa after the Fardh salaah

Q: Salaah-635: After salaahs like the Fajr and Asr salaahs after which there are no Sunnah salaahs, in which direction should the Imaam face when he sits to make the du'aa? Should he face the people or turn to the right or left? There is a difference of opinion here and everyone is adamant that they are right? Please clarify.

Answer: Although it is best to face to the right, this should not be done always because people will regard it to be compulsory. If there are no Musallis performing salaah behind the Imaam, it is permissible for him to turn and face the Musallis. This is also proven from the deeds of Rasulullaah.

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Mas'ood RADI. said, "Never allow Shaytaan to have a share in your salaah by regarding it to be compulsory to turn to the right because I have often seen Rasulullaah SAW. face to the left, Commenting in this, Mirqaat states, "This makes it apparent that whoever insists on carrying out a Mustahab act and does not permit the easier alternative has been misled by Shaytaan. If this is the case with a Mustahab act, what about people who are this adamant about acts of Bid'ah and sin.
