A Query Concerning s Quotation in a Previous Fatwa of Fataawaa Raheemiyyah

Q: Salaah-700: I am befitting tremendously from your Fataawaa Raheemiyyah and the manner in which replies are provided with great detail. I make du'aa that Allaah. keeps your shadow prevailing over us for a long time, that Allaah rewards you abuniantly on behalf of all the Ummah and that you have a most excellent end. Aameen.
An important point I wish to raise is that a previous Fatwa of Fataawaa Raheemiyyah quoted an extract from Fat'hul Baari (Vol.2 Pg.99) stating that the Sahabah RADI. stood up for salaah when the Mu'adhin started the Iqaamah. However, despite my exhaustive search, I was unable to find the extract. Please help me find it by providing the page number and chapter. Do also remember us in your du'aas.

Answer: Respected Mufti Sahib. Despite my own searching, I have also not managed to find the extract of Fat'hul Baari. Because so many books were referred to in preparing the reply, it may have happened that some of them were mixed up when writing the reply.

The meaning intended by tire extract is however correct by the grace of Allaah and is substantiated by a narration in the Musannaf of Abdur Razzaaq, which the author of Fat'hul Baari has also quoted. I am sending you a photocopy of the relevant page of the Musannaf of Abdur Razzaaq. The narration is: Ibn shihaab RAH. reports that the sahabah RADI. used to stand up for salaah as soon as the Iqaamah was called out and Rasulullaah SAW. would stand in his position only once the rows were straightened.

The extract quoted in Fataawaa Raheemiyya his a deduction from the above narration and therefore perfectly correct. In fact, other Ulema have also reported the same:

1. Hadhrat Moulana Mufti Muhammad shafee RAH. has written a booklet tilted Iqaamat ke Waqt Muqtadi kab Khare ho". This booklet has been published in the first volume of Jawaahirul Fiqh (pgs.309 -524). Hadhrat Moulana RAH. says in this booklet ?The collection of narrations prove the common point that Rasulullaah SAW. used to come out of his room and was not in the Masjid beforehand. Hadhrat Bilaal RADI. would call out the lqaamah as soon as he saw Rasulullaah SAW. and the sahabah RADI. would form their rows when they heard the Iqaamah. Rasulullaah SAW. never forbade this practice."

2. Umdatul Fiqh (Vol.2 Pg.102) states, "In a like manner, it is best to stand up in advance to straighten the rows. This has been established from the Sahabah RADI. as well."

3. Ahsanul Fataawaa (Pg.250) states, "The gist of all the Ahadeeth is that it is Makrobh Tanzeehi for the people to stand up before the Imaam. It is best for the people to stand after the Imaam and for his standing up to be announced by starting the Iqaamah. The Muqtadis may then stand was soon as they hear the Takbeer. This is what the Sahabah RADI. used to do." This Fatwa contains many details and should be studied.

And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
