Unable to get Leave for the Jumu'ah salaah

Q: Salaah-689: I am currently receiving training in a factory and am being paid 350 Rupees monthly. I start at nine in the morning and continue until 5p.m. I receive break between one and two in the afternoons and have no permission to attend the Jumu'ah salaah on Fridays. What am I to do on Fridays? Should I perform Zuhr, resign or team up with a few other Muslims to perform the Jumu'ah salaah? If t am allowed to perform Zuhr, for how long will I be able to do this? The company is not at all prepared to grant leave for the Jumu'ah salaah despite my greatest efforts. In fact, they are not prepared to do so even if I forsake my salary. What am I to do?

Answer: If one's employment requires one to continuously perform Zuhr and to forsake a hallmark of Islaam such as the Jumu'ah salaah, then such employment is worthy of leaving. Look for employment elsewhere. However, until you find alternate employment, you may perform the Jumu'ah salaah in the factory, even though the rewards of the Masjid will be lost. Remember that the Jumu'ah salaah will be valid only if there are at least three persons with the Imaam, otherwise not. The Khutbah also needs to be delivered.
