Performing the Asr of the Day at Sunset

Q: Salaah-713: A person entered the Masjid two to three minutes before sunset to perform his Asr salaah for the day. By the time he finished wudhu, it was time to call out the Maghrib Adhaan. Can he perform the Asr salaah at this time?

Answer: It is permissible but Makrooh to perfornt the Asl salaah of the day at the time of sunset. However, intentionally delaying the salaah to this time is a sign of hypocrisy. If the sun has already set. the Maghrib salaah should first be performed and then the Qadhaa of Asr. However, if a person is Saahibut Tarteeb . he must first perform the Qadhaa of the Asr before the Fardh of Maghrib. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
