The Imaam proceeded for Ruku without Reciting the Qunoot

Q: Salaah-463: In the third Rakaah of the Witr salaah, the Imaam Proceeded for Ruku without reciting the Qunoot' Although the Muqtadis corrected him, he remained in Ruku. Because of their confusion, some Muqtadis remained standing and neither performed Ruku nor recited the. Qunoot, but completed the salaah with the Imaam. The others joined him in Ruku without reciting the Qunoot. The Imaam then performed Sajdah Sahw and completed the salaah. Which group of Muqtadis were right and whose salaah was nullified? What will the ruling be if all their salaahs were nullified?

Answer: The Imaam's salaah will be valid, as will be the salaah of all those who followed him in Ruku either immediately or while he was still in Ruku. As for those who did not perform the Ruku, their salaah will be invalid because they omitted a Fardh (obligatory) posture of salaah. When the Qunoot is omitted in error, Sajdah Sahw will compensate for it and there is therefore no need to return to the standing posture from Ruku.

When the Qunoot in mistakenly omitted, one of the following four courses of action may be taken:

1. The Qunoot may be recited in Ruku

2. One may return to the standing posture, recite the Qunoot and repeat the Ruku

3. One may return to the standing posture, recite the Qunoot and not repeat the Ruku

4. The Qunoot is neither recited in Ruku, nor after returning to Qiyaam By performing Sajdah sahw in all the above cases, the salaah will be valid. For Only Women to
