Repeating Sajdah Tilaawah Verses

Q: Salaah-468: Please furnish replies to the following:

1. An Imaam recited the Sajdah Tilaawah verse of Surah Alif Laam Meem Sajdah and performed the Sajdah. He then performed Fajr salaah in the same spot and again recited the same Sajdah Tilaawah verse. Will the first Sajdah Tilaawah suffice since he did not change position?

2. A person recited a Sajdah Tilaawah verse when not performing salaah but did not perform the Sajdah Tilaawah. He then repeated the verse in salaah and performed the Sajdah Tilaawah. Will this Sajdah Tilaawah in salaah suffice for the first one or will he need to repeat it?

3. A person recited a Sajdah Tilaawah verse when performing salaah and performed the Sajdah Tilaawah. He then repeated the verse out of salaah but in the same spot. Will he need to perform another Sajdah Tilaawah?

Answer:

1.A second Sajdah Tilaawah will be necessary and both the Imaam and the followers will have to perform it. Although a verse recited twice in the same place will necessitate only one Sajdah Tilaawah, this will not apply when one Sajdah Tilaawah became binding out of salaah and the other during salaah.

2.The Sajdah Tilaawah performed during the salaah will suffice for both and a second will not be binding. It is however in the interests of caution to perform a second Sajdah Tilaawah'a

3.A second Sajdah Tilaawah will be binding.
