Completing the Qur'aan in a Single Night

Q: Salaah-451.: We here in Nandarbaad wish to perform the Shabeena salaah. How is it to be done? Should the Qur'aan be completed in one night or three? How many nights should it take and must it be performed in twenty Rakaahs or more?

Answer: Performing the Shabeena salaah is not without some abomination in these times. One of the factors rendering it Makrooh is that Nafl salaah is performed in Jamaa'ah and when there are more than three followers, it would be Makrooh Tahreemi.2 It is however permissible to complete the Qur'aan in a single night in the Taraaweeh salaah on condition that it is recited clearly and properly and that people do not miss the salaah because they are busy preparing refreshments and meals. However, where are those Huffaadh who can complete the Qur'aan in a single night and whose recitation can be understood apart from just hearing (YA?ALMUN) and (TA?A LAMUN) It will therefore be Makrooh for people to complete the Qur'aan in less than three nights when such factors exists. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
