Distributing Sweets after the Completion of the Qur'aan

Q: Salaah-454: (1) What is the ruling concerning distributing sweets after the completion of the Qur'aan in the Taraaweeh salaah at the end of Ramadhaan?
(2) The sweets are sponsored by a single individual and no collection is made. Is this in order?
(3) Can the sweets be distributed in the Masjid itself or in the courtyard?

Answer: (1) Although this is not at all necessary, people have started to regard is as being necessary. They then ensure that they do it with regularity, collect money for the same and children and people gather in the Masjid. making a lot of noise. Because of these linked evils, it is best to forsake this practice.

(2) If the Imaam or any other person wishes to distribute sweets out of happiness upon the occasion of completing the Qur'aan, there is no harm if the sanctity of the Masjid is not violated.

(3) If the carpets will not be stained, if the sweets are dry and if the sanctity of the Masjid is not violated, there will be no harm. It is however best if it is done in the courtyard.

And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
