Repeating the Eid salaah out of Necessity

Q: Salaah-531: Here in England we cannot find a hall big enough to accommodate the Musallis for the Eid salaah. Therefore, people perform the Eid salaah in a small hall and when they have completed, another Jamaa'ah is made, which is as big as the first. The Imaam then makes an announcement that an Eid collection will take place and people donate according to their capabilities. This money is then presented to the Imaam as a gift. Can the Eid salaah be performed twice in one place and can such a gift be given to the Imaam?

Answer: If there is no Eid Gah, nor any Masjid large enough, a large field on the outskirts of the town should be arranged for the Eid salaah to be performed. If this is not possible, the Eid salaah may be performed in a large and safe field in town or a hall or house. If one such place cannot be found, a second place should be arranged. Salaah can be repeated twice or thrice in the same venue only when no second place can be found despite exhaustive efforts in doing so. The Imaam of the first Jamaa'ah can however not lead the second Jamaa'ah. While there is no harm in people giving the Imaam gifts, it is wrong for the Imaam to announce the collection. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
