A Break between the Khutbah and Iqaamah

Q: Salaah-555: After delivering the Khutbah on Fridays, our Imaam sits down on his Musalla when he alights from the Mimbar. The Mu'adhin then calls out the Iqaamah and the Imaam and Musallis then stand up only when the Mu'adhin says (HAYYAA ALAS SALAAH) This is done every Friday. Is it Sunnah?

Answer: This manner of your Imaam's conflicts with the Sunnah. The famous book of Hanafi jurisprudence Durrul Mukhtaar states that the Iqaamah is to be called out as soon as the Imaam ends the Khutbah and it is Makrooh to break in between, Shaami explains this to mean that the beginning of the lqaamah should immediately follow the end of the Khutbah and the lqaamah should end when the Imaam reached his Musalla.

This proves that the manner your Imaam adopts is concocted and it will be sinful to regard it to be sunnah. Hadhrat Mujaddid Alf Thaani RAH. mentioned that regarding a Makrooh as an act of good is a grave sin.

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Mas'ood RAH. mentioned that people will soon innovate new things in Deen and when this happens, he advised people to adhere fast to the ways of the old.
