Using Interest and zakaah in Building a Wall for a Graveyard

Q: Janaa'iz-73: We intend building a wall to surround our graveyard. Can interest money zakaah money and money earned through gambling be used for this purpose?

Answer: It is necessary to build a wall around the graves to protect them from desecration. Halaal wealth is however needed for this purpose. Zakaah wealth cannot be used for this and if used, the zakaah will not be discharged. One may also not used money earned through gambling. Since it is the duty of people to safeguard their dead. they ought to collect as much as they are able to and it is only when they fall short and are forced to use interest earned in banks that they may do so. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
