Applying Kohl to the Deceased

Q: Jana a'iz-91: What is the ruling concerning applying Kohl to the eyes of the deceased together with applying perfume?

Answer: While it is in accordance with the Sunnah to apply perfume and camphor to the body, Kohl may not be applied to the eyes. Applying kohl is a means of beatification and the deceased requires none of that. It is for the same reason that the Fuqahaa do not permit the combing of the hair and paring of the nails.
