Repeating Fasts Missed While Travelling

Q: Saum-23: It is necessary to repeat the fasts that were missed because of travel?

Answer: Certainly, It is necessary to repeat these fasts and if they are not observed, it is necessary to make a bequest that the Fidya be paid for them. This will be paid if the estate can afford it. If a person passes away after returning from the journey (in which he failed to fast), but before he had had time to observe the fasts, the bequest will not be Waajib (compulsory) However, if he did have time to observe some of the fasts and did not, he will have to make a bequest for Fidya to be paid for this number of fasts. For example, if he missed ten fasts while travelling and passed away only five days after returning, he will be liable to pay Fidya for the five fasts he could have observed after returning and not for the other five which he had no opportunity to observe.
