Is the Fast of the 27th of Rajab Equal to a Thousand Fasts? PDF Print E-mail

Is the Fast of the 27th of Rajab Equal to a Thousand Fasts?

Q: Saum-41: Many People attach great importance to fasting on the 27th of Rajab, believing that the fast equals a thousand fasts. What does the shari?ah say about this?

Answer: The narrations concerning the 27th of Rajab are fabricated and cannot be relied upon. It is therefore forbidden to regard the fast of the 27th of Rajab as being sunnah and to believe that it is equal to a thousand fasts. In fact, Hadhrat umar RADI. used to forbid the people from fasting on the 27th of Rajab.

However, it will not be forbidden to fast on the day when one does not regard the fast to be sunnah or equal to a thousand fasts. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
