For an Immature Child to Sit in I'tikaaf

Q: It'kaaf-11: Can a child not yet of 1S-e sit in I'tikaaf for the last ten days of Ramadhaan? We hive a child not yet of age sitting for I'tikaaf here. If it is not permissible for him to do so, should we remove him?

Answer: If a child not yet of age is understanding and able to perform salaah properly, he may sit in I'tikaaf. His I'tikaaf will however not be sunnah, but Nafl. If he is not understanding, he may not sit for I'tikaaf because he will not be able to observe the etiquette of the Masjid. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
