Speaking to People while in I'tikaaf

Q: It'ka af-27: When is the person in I'tikaaf is allowed to leave the Masjid? For example, can he go to the courtyard of the Masjid to meet some friend or relative? Can he leave repeatedly to spit or to perform Nafl wudhu? Can he leave to drink water or must arrangements be made to have the water brought inside?

Answer: A person in I'tikaaf may leave the Masjid only for Deeni necessities (such as performing the Jumu'ah salaah) or personal necessities (such as relieving himself). Because meeting relatives and friends is neither a Deeni or a personal necessity, he may not leave the Masjid to do so. Doing so will nullify the I'tikaaf. He may not also leave to spit, but may do so to perform wudhu. He should also keep a container of water with him in the Masjid, but will be allowed to leave the Masjid to get some if he had none and there is no one to get it for him.
