What type of Grain is to be Given with the Sadaqqtul Fitr Monies Received from Abroad?

Question: Many people from abroad write to their relatives here (in India) To pay the Sadaqatul Fitr on their behalf. As a precaution. one Ser of wheat is given to the price thereof. The question is what price should be used when paying the Sadaqatul Fitr: is it the price locally or the price paid abroad?

Answer: The Sadaqatul Fitr to be given for them is the high grade Bengali wheat the price of wheat in the foreign country. However, if the price is higher locally, then the equivalent of the local price should be paid. It is best to give the wheat itself 'and if the equivalent value is to be given it should be the amount that is most beneficial to the recipients. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
