Sadaqatul Fitr is Never Waived

Question: If a wealthy person did not pay his Sadaqatul Fitr before the Eid salaah. will it be waived?

Answer: Sadaqatul Fitr is Waajib (compulsory) for the man or woman Who posses the amount of Nisaab whether they fasted or not. A man needs to pay the Sadaqatul Fitr for himself as well as for his little children in his care. A mother is not obliged to pay on behalf of her little children. If such a person failed to pay the Sadaqatul Fitr before the Eid salaah. it will not be waived and still failing to do so will make him sinful.

A person should give half a Saa (approximately 1 .75kg) of wheat as Sadaqatul Fitr or a full Saa (approximately 3.5kg.) of barley. The monetary equivalent of this can also be given. The grain to be given as sadaqatul Fitr is that which is normally eaten by the people and the monetary value to give is the market value and not the control value. Of course, people who eat the control grain will give the value of the control grain, but only to those poor people who usually have control grain.
If any grain other than wheat is given as Sadaqatul Fitr (such as rice, gram. etc), it must be given according to the monetary value of wheat or barley, meaning that so much of it is to be given as can be purchased with the price of half a saa (1.75kg) of wheat a full saa (approximately 3.5ks) of barley.

While it is best that each poor person should be given the equivalent of Sadaqatul Fitr, he may be given less or even more. Sadaqatul Fitr is an act of Ibaadah by which people express their joy and which also assists the poor. Furthermore, it serves to purge the iniquities of one's fasts. In addition to this, it eases the pangs of death and protects one from punishment in the grave.

These rewards can also be attained by people who pay the Sadaqatul Fitr even though not in possession of Nisaab. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
