Suspending Salaah in Jamaa'ah and the Jumu'ah? salaah for the Duration of Construction

Q: Masaajid and Madaaris-8 : The roof above the praying area of our Masjid has decayed and a slab is being put on as part of the repair work to the roof. Since this will make it very difficult to perform salaah in Jamaa'ah there. can the Jamaa'ah salaah be performed in the courtyard of the Masjid or at the Howdh? Will the Jumu'ah salaah performed in this manner be valid? If the Jumu'ah salaah can be performed, what can be used as a Mimbar (pulpit)?

Answer: If it is indeed difficult to perform salaah in Jamaa'ah while the slab is being put in place, the salaah may be performed anywhere in the vicinity of the Masjid where Jamaa'ah is possible. The salaahs need to be performed in Jamaa'ah and it cannot be suspended for the duration. If need be the Jumu'ah salaah may also be performed likewise. Any platform may be used as a Mimbar (even a wooden one) from which the Khutbah is delivered, if space does not allow this, or if there is not enough time to have one prepared, the Khutbah may even be delivered from the ground. Standing atop a Mimbar is not a requirement for the validity of the Khutbah. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
