Dowry when Divorce Takes place before Consummation

Question: A sane woman of age demanded a divorce before ever, having the marriage consummated. Will she be entitled to her dowry and maintenance for the duration of the Iddah if the divorce is issued?

Answer: She will be entitled to half the dowry and since she need not sit in Iddah. there is no question of maintenance. The dowry will however be waived if the wife requests the husband to trade the divorce for the dowry. This is referred to as Khula in the Shari'ah. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
