Sewing Clothing that Conflicts with the Shari'ah

Q: Prohibitions and Permissions-1: What is the ruling concerning a tailor who sews clothing that conflicts with the Shari'ah and who keeps the left-over material for himself?

Answer: Sewing such clothing is Makrooh because Allaah clearly states. "Do not assist in sin and disobedience. Shaami (Vol.5 Pg.345) makes it clear that if a shoemaker is asked to make shoes like those of the Makrooh or sinners or a tailor is asked to sew clothing like theirs. it will be Makrooh for him to do so.

If the left-over material is so little that the owner would not want it. the tailor may keep it because people generally do not mind this. It will, however, not be permissible for him to keep the left-over material when it is so much that people would usually want it back. He may keep it only with the permission of the owner.
