Organ Donations

Q: Prohibitions and Permissions-14: Can a person make a bequest that his eyes should be donated to someone in need of them?

Answer: Because a person does not own any part of his body, he has no right to do as he pleases with them. He therefore cannot make such a bequest. In fact, even if a person does so, it will not be permissible to use the limb. Doing so is really demeaning the body, which deserves to be respected. Since the bequest is for something that the deceased does not own, it will be invalid and the person or institution to whom it has been bequeathed has no right to claim it. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
