Rearing a Dog for Security

Q: Prohibitions and Permissions-28: What do the Ulema of Deen and the Muftis have to say about me rearing a dog at my house for security reasons since my house has been burgled four times already? My wife and children are now terrified after the burglaries. I have however read that rearing dogs is permissible only for hunting and to guard livestock.

Answer: You may keep a dog under the stated circumstances when there are no other means available for your security. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
