An Objection to a Fatwa in Fataawaa Raheemiyyah

Q: Miss-8: In a previous Fatwa of Fataawaa Rsheemiyyah, you indicated in a reply that it contradicts the Sunnah to habitually adding words to the du'aas reported in the Ahadeeth, such as the words (WAILAYK YARJI ASSALAAM HAYYANA RABBANA- BISSAALAAM WA? ADKHILNA DAARAS SALAAM) However, Nizaamul Fataawaa (Pg.165) states that it is permissible to add these words to the du'aa and that it is not in conflict with the teachings of Rasulullaah SAW. What is your opinion now?

Answer: The Fatwa issued in Fataawaa Raheemiyyah is based on caution because it is not preferable to add to the du'aas reported from Rasulullaah SAW. or to alter them in any way. Rasulullaah SAW. once taught a Sahabi RADI. a du'aa that included the words, "...Your Nabi SAW. whom You have sent...". To show more honour to Rasulullaah SAW. the Sahabi RADI. changed the words to ". . .Your Rasul SAW. whom you have sent. . . " . Rasulullaah SAW. immediately prevented him from doing so and insisted that the use the words that Rasulullaah SAW. taught.

Hadhrat Mufti Kifaayatullaah RAH. also prefers this view. He states, "The words of du'aas reported in the Ahadeeth should be kept as they are ... it is Makrooh to add one's own words to the reported du'aas. He was once asked about adding to the du'aa after Adhaan the words (AL DARJAH) (AR RAAFIAH) after (AL FDILAH) and WA? ARZKNA SHAFAA?AT- YAWMAL QIYAAM) after (WA?DATAH) His reply to this was that it is best not to add these words since they have not been reported in the Ahadeeth. It is however alright if a person adds these words without the belief that they are established from Rasulullaah SAW. The Du'aa after the Adhaan is made individually whereas the du'aa after salaah is in Jamaa?ah. Hearing the du'aa with the additional words will give the public the impression that the words are established from Rasulullaah SAW. and it will be extremely difficult to prevent this. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
