Women Performing the Taraaweeh salaah at? Home in Jamaa'ah

Q: Miss-11: (1) Can a Haafidh lead the Taraaweeh salaah at home, followed by Mahram and non-Mahram women? (2) will ten to twenty women of the area be allowed to perform the Taraaweehm salaah behind the Haafidh and listen to the recitation of the entire Qur'aan?

Answer: (1.2) It is permissible for a Haafidh to lead the women of the household in Taraarweeh salaah. be they Mahram or non-Mahram. It is however not permissible to gather the women of the locality to perform the salaah behind the Haafidh since this would lead to much evil. Why then are women prevented from attending the Masjid? Durrul Mukhtaar makes it clear that it is Makrooh for a man to lead women of the household in salaah if there is no man amongst the Jamaa'ah or a Mahram of his such as his mother or sister. If a man or a Mahram is present. it will not be Makrooh. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
