Marriage Before a non-Muslim Judge

Question: The law in Britain demands that a marriage takes place before a non-Muslim judge for it to be registered. It takes place with a representative, witnesses and the formal procedure of proposal and acceptance. There is however no Khutbah or du'aa. Is this marriage valid?

Answer: If there are two Muslim men or one Muslim man and two women Present when this marriage takes place, the marriage will be valid and the couple will each be entitled to their marital rights. However, since this conflicts with the Sunnah practice, the couple should have the marriage done according to the Sunnah method as soon as they return from the court. It is improper to delay this Procedure.
