From where Should a Person Performing Hajj Badal Don the Ihraam?

Q: Hajj-22: A person passed away without making a bequest for Hajj Badal to be performed on his behalf. His wife is however sponsoring someone to perform Hajj Badal on his behalf . The person is leaving by ship. Must he don the Ihraam with the rest of the people from the Miqaat and proceed to Madinah with the Ihraam, if he intends going first to Madinah? Otherwise, must be rather perform Umrah, come out of Ihraam and then proceed to Madinah?

Answer: If he has the permission of the person sending him, there is no harm done in proceeding first to go to Madinah, in which case he will not have to don the Ihraam beforehand. He will then don the Ihraam from Dhul Hulayfah (also called Bir Ali) while travelling from Madinah to Makkah. From here, he will perform the Ifraad Hajj, but he may also perform the Qiraan Hajj with the permission of the person sending him. However, in this case, he will have to pay for the sacrificial animal. which becomes necessary.

When donning the Ihraam. it is necessary for him to take the name of the person on whose behalf he is performing the Hajj He should take care to exercise frugality in spending during the journey and needs to personally bear the expense of anything extra. He will also need to return any cash, goods or clothing that remains after returning. The person sending him for Hajj may, however. hand these over to him as a gift. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
