Question

1.? Going back to question no 15753, the belief of the usuli shias is that the Quran is complete, the sahaba were muslims but became sinners and hazrat Umar ra was responsible for the death of baby Muhsin and that lanat must be sent on him (tauba astaghfirallah). They believe that the imams of ithna asharia are NOT higher than the prophets and that hazrat Aisha did not commit adultery but they send lanat on her beause of battle jamal. Are these shias muslims?

2. is it true that a dead person can feel when he?s being given ghusl and can hear people around him and knows what his/her family members are up to?

3. I understand that bidah is something new introduced into the religion but if we were to do something new without the intention of adding it to the religion would it still be bidah? For example if I celebrate the prophet salalhu alihi wasalam?s birthday without believing it is necessary would that still be bidah?

4.? Is it true that guru/baba nanak died as a believer

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

1). If the beliefs of the Usoolis are as outlined in your question (i.e. they believe that the Quran is complete, the Sahaba were Muslims but became sinners, curses should be sent on Umar (R.A) and Ayesha (R.A) and the Imams are not higher than the prophets), then they will be regarded as Muslims. Nonetheless, they would be regarded as innovators and astray because of cursing and speaking ill of the Sahabah. ?In fact there are numerous Ulama who consider the cursing of Sahabah alone as an act of disbelief.

The above will apply only if, in spite of speaking ill of Abu Bakr and Umar (R.A), the Usoolis still acknowledge their khilafah. If they disregard their khilafah, then too they would be regarded as disbelievers.

Many Usoolis also believe that the Quran and Ahadith are not eternal authorities and were restricted to a certain period. According to them, the laws of Shariah changes to suit with the times. Therefore, if their present ?Imam? issues a verdict contrary to Quran and hadith, then he will have to be obeyed. If this belief of the Usoolis is proven, they will not be considered as Muslims.

2) We have only found the following hadith in this regard.

((The soul of a deceased is in the hands (control) of the king (Allah. When (the deceaced) is being given ghusal and carried, Allah says: ?Hear what good words are being said about you.)) (Mussanaf Abdur Razaaq 3/443, Al Maktabah al Islami, Beirut)

3) This is a ploy of Shaitan. He will involve you in an action while your intentions are pure and noble. Thereafter he will slowly work on corrupting your intentions.

Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) has said:

((Whoever does an action upon which there is no command of ours, it would be rejected)) (Bukhari 3/33 Dar al fikr, Muslim 12/242 Dar al ma?rifah)

((Whoever innovates an action in our matter (religion) what is not from it, it would be rejected)) (Bukhari 3/222 Dar al fikr, Muslim 12/242 Dar al ma?rifah)

These Ahadith clearly indicate that any action done in contrast to the ways of Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) would be rejected. This is irrespective of the intentions. Therefore, you should rather adhere strictly to the ways of Nabi sallAllahu alayi wasallam) and refrain from everything contrary to his teachings.

4) There are numerous events which took place in the life of Guru Nanak indicating that he was a Muslim. Examples of these are his trips to Makkah and Madinah, his visit to meet the Ulama and Masjids of Baghdad etc. The following statements are also attributed to him "We are all one, created by the One Creator of all Creation" and "The Lord is but One God, His name is Truth, He is the Originator, None does he fears, He does not possess any rancor, He never dies, He is beyond the cycle of births and death, He is self illuminated, He is realized by the kindness of the True Guru. He was True in the beginning, He was True when the time commenced and has ever been True, He is also True now". These events are agreed upon by Muslims and Sikhs. (Sikhs give different reasons for the above, but fundamentally accept that these events did take place.)

Allah alone knows whether he did claim divinity or prophethood. Also, the books of history are silent on his other beliefs. No mention is made whether he believed in Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), the Quran, Angels, the last day etc. Therefore, the best would be to hand his matter over to Allah, and not pass any verdict of Iman or kufr on him.

And Allah knows best

Wassalam
