Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh

The day of Qiyamah refers to the day when the entire creation will be resurrected to stand before Allah Ta?ala. (Lisan al Arab 5/349, Dar as Sadir) Nabi SAW has mentioned the resurrection of people on the day of Qiyamah in numerous Ahadith. Hereunder, we have mentioned just a few

As for the gaps between the time when the world will be destroyed and the time of Qiyamah, when people will be resurrected, there is a narration of Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) in which he mentioned forty. However, when he was asked to specify whether it is forty years, months or days, he refused to respond to the answer.

Imam Nawai (May Allah Ta'ala be pleased with him) has mentioned in his commentary on Saheeh Muslim that there are narrations in which it is clearly stated that the difference is Forty years. (Al Minhaj 18/292, Dar al Ma?rifah)
