The Six Rakaahs salaah after Maghrib on the night of Baraa'ah

Q: Imaan-88 : The people in our locality are particular about performing The six Rakaahs salaah after Maghrib on the night of Baraa'ah. The first two Rakaahs are for a long life, the second two to avert calamities and the third two to be saved from being dependent on others. They also recite Surah Yaaseen between every two Rakaahs. Is this Sunnah? Are we to perform this or not?

Answer: There is no substantiation for the six Rakaahs salaah after Maghrib on the night of Baraa'ah in this prescribed manner and it is wrong to regard it as a Sunnah. One may, however, perform as much Nafl salaah as one wishes to on this night and then make du'aa for a long life, abundant sustenance, protection against calamities. etc. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
