Making Du'aa in Sajdah

Q: Imaan-90 : Is it permissible to make du'aa while in the Sajdah posture after the Tahajjud salaah or any other time? Some say that it is permissible, while others maintain that it is Makrooh. Did Rasulullaah SAW. do this?

Answer: This type of Sajdah is called Sajdah Munaajaat and while some Ulema allow it, others say that it is Makrooh.' I should never be made a habit because it is inappropriate to discard manners of du'aa that are agreed upon to resort to manners about which the Ulema differ. The lengthy du'aas that Rasulullaah SAW. is reported to have made in Sajdah refer to the du'aas in his Nafl salaah. One may therefore the du'aas reported in the Ahadeeth in the Sajdah of one?s Tahajjud salaah. And Allaah knows 'best what is most correct.
