Using Impure water for Istinjaa

Q: Taharaat-46: An animal died in the pond of our Masjid and decomposed There, rendering the water impure. Although the people were aware of this before the Zuhr salaah, the Imaam used the water for Istinjaa and then made wudhu with pure water. The Imaam admitted this after someone questioned him about it after he had led the salaah. Does the salaah need to be repeated? Please tell us the ruling in the case where the Imaam did so intentionally and in the situation where he did so unintentionally.

Answer: If the colour, taste or smell of the water changed after the animal dies in the water, the water will be rendered impure. However, if none of these qualities changed and the water is more than ten by ten. it would not become impure.

In the case of any of the qualities changing, wudhu, Ghusl or Istinjaa made with this water will be invalid regardless of whether these were done intentionally or unintentionally. In this case, the salaah will have to be repeated. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
