Fanning oneself during the Khutbah

Q:salaah-534: People are busy fanning themselves while the Khutbah is in progress. How is this?

Answer: This act is not free from being Makrooh. When a Hadith condemns playing with the pebbles on the ground during the Khutbah because it preoccupies one from listening to the Khutbah, ianning oneself is an even greater form of preoccupation. And Allaah knows best what is most correct.
