A Secretive Marriage

Question: will a marriage be valid if it is performed secretly?

Answer: It will be valid if witnesses fitting the requirements of the Shari'ah are present when the proposal and acceptance takes place. This however conflicts with the Sunnah. which requires the marriage to be made public.
